What we do

Our volunteers come at the same time every week and spend about an hour with the residents who want company. They talk, play cards and bingo, help in the garden, or join an activity your staff already has planned. Every volunteer goes through orientation first and knows to come to your staff with anything beyond keeping someone company.

We recruit and train the volunteers, handle their schedules, and stay in touch with your staff contact. You know your residents; we take your lead on who to introduce and how.

Getting started

We start with a small pilot: a few volunteers and a few residents at one weekly time. Before anyone visits, we meet with your staff contact to agree on how residents are invited, where volunteers sign in, and how we let you know if someone can't make it.

After the first several visits, we sit down together and look at what is working. From there we keep going, adjust the schedule, or add volunteers. Read the pilot planning guide.

Resident choice

Residents decide whether to take part, and they can change their minds any week. Joining a visit is also separate from being photographed or having a story shared. Each of those needs its own permission, and saying yes to one never means yes to the others.

What we need from you

  • One staff member we can call
  • A weekly time that does not clash with meals
  • A room where people can sit together and talk

You do not need to have all of this worked out before you email us. We can figure it out together.
